Maybe its nothing to do with ya'll at all and more to do with the polish. We dabble as well, but keep it very homemade and raw and it had the opposite effect for me that you describe. The Privacy and it, and the exclusivity really hits.

I have a great solution for this, static multicam. I use the Logitech Mevo for this however there are others that can screen mirror. Even if you set up a bunch of gopro/cheap action cameras it will work. You watch and edit your own footage. You decide which angle looks best and when you should switch. You create a better connection to the end scene. In turn doing that will make you more aware of how to play to, open up to and angle towards the camera and lead to better set ups and pre-planning of footage. The final thing is it may loosen things up remove any inhibitions and allow for breaks as needed so you don't have to think about a third party waiting on you...hope this helps.
