Our Guide to Medical Fetish and Play

Ever accidentally get turned on at the doctor's surgery? We know we have. Well, maybe you haven't, but like the idea of it. Plenty of people share a fantasy for medical play. So many, in fact, that there are entire groups and classes dedicated to this subject.

A while ago, I attended a live medical fetish class at Paddles NYC hosted by Dom sub Friends (DsF) and taught by Santos. Here are some highlights of setting the scene, what you'll need, and how to practice safely.
 

Medical fetish costumes can be tacky... or not

Slipping into a sexy nurse outfit might sound a little too cliché or silly for real life. But wearing a costume is a great way to break free from accepted standards of behavior, which is why they can be integral to taking on the role of a devious doctor or naughty patient.

Santos wore a set of standard scrubs for his live demonstrations, and discussed how even for a medical professional like himself, the proper outfit adds a level of authenticity that he wouldn't feel in jeans and a t-shirt. The scrubs Santos wore are available through any medical supplier and even many chain department stores or on Amazon.

Pick your medical fetish roles

Doctors, nurses, patients... these are all surface roles. Adding a Dom/sub or switch dynamic to your medical play scene will provide more depth to these basic relationships, and allow further room for playing.

Are you a domineering doctor who uses her tools sadistically, an aroused patient in need of discipline, or a scheming nurse who overtakes the doctor when they least expect it? These choices will inform the way both parties communicate within a medical fetish play scene. In his demonstration, Santos spoke to his patient like she was a child instead of a grown woman. Dehumanising his demonstration partner was a tactic Santos used to objectify her.

Stick to your medical play roles 

The basic check-up scene in medical fetish play can only last so long without jumping to groping and touching. But roles come with rules, rules that will prevent participants from speeding to the nitty-gritty.

A restricted breast exam is much more tantalising if it's only allowed to go so far. For some, the appeal of being aroused in a real medical setting stems from the sheer fact that it's not acceptable behaviour. Setting boundaries and sticking to them will make your scene last longer before its inevitable conclusion on the exam table.

Choose your medical fetish play tools

Despite having an exotic list of implements to demonstrate with (including a laryngoscope, vaginal speculum, and a catheter), Santos preferred instruments that were his hands.  With them, he positioned and repositioned, examined, probed, and teased his demo partner. He used medical gloves, lube, and during a particularly sadistic moment, Capsaicin, to enhance the overall experience. There are some places online where one can go about buying basic medical tools, and there are plenty of online tutorials for learning how to use them properly.

Use medical fetish play tools safely

While the medical gloves Santos wore certainly added to the presentation's authenticity, his primary reason for donning them was sterilisation. This became especially important when Santos attached a catheter to his partner's urethra. He used a fitted drape to ensure that the catheter would not make contact with any surface area that isn't sterile and emphasized that incorrect use of such devices could lead to infection.

While attaching a catheter or prying open anatomy with a speculum can be exciting to the right participant, correct use is crucial.

Building your way up to more advanced scenarios such as these is highly recommended. In the meantime, get comfortable in whichever roles you've chosen to explore. Besides, serious tools should only be used by real doctors.
