New Messaging System

Personally, I still use the desktop app on my mobile and until today, my only lingering gripe was the messages being typed often went 'below' the water and I could not see what I'd typed. Could then drag the sidebar down to see/amend, but it should always keep the current line in focus, very, very basic box tick when setting the input parameters up for that field. I didn't go for the App because anything that asks you to switch all sorts off before it can install is not well written so potentially buggy/hacky. I don't have to do that for WhatsApp, Insta, Telegram, Kik so why Fetish? xxxx

Jen, the app has had glitches for at least two months that they've failed to fix. I'm sympathetic that shit happens, but I am getting quite annoyed by it now.

I can't speak on the app. I don't use it. Site is what I use. There's never been an issue with dm's going blank for the sake of an hour or two,l I don't get why people are getting so shitty about it.

The app in general, I'd understand.

Me too.... site on mobile has been a bit so-so since the big upgrade, including the Messages screen showing "Reload" and nothing else for an hour or so today, but seemingly less troubled than the "App".

I use both the app and the site depending on where I am or what I am doing, and when I talk about the issues that are happening it is primarily the app that is the issue, I'm not saying the site is bug free but it has been better as of late. I think Lady Char has hit the nail on the head...

The app issues have been going on way too long now, if it's taken this long to try and get the update right then they didn't do enough testing... But rather than abandon it and return to the old version and then rework and retest the new update they doubled down and that has caused a lot of resentment among the app users. It has got to the point that as of late I don't really frequent the site as much as I once did in favour of using other less buggy sites!

So if people are paying for the site they are going to feel trapped into sticking with it and that is going to cause a lot of resentment which isn't going to be good for the site in the long run as when renewal comes around they are going to think back to the last two months and think twice about paying for the extra's again!

Even if you're a paying member does NOT mean you have to keep the APP.... you can still enjoy the perks on here without the app.

On that note and this may be unwanted by Fet itself but heyho.

You need to get RID of the app. Altogether. Gone.

Firstly you can't get gifs in chat (very important)!

Secondly you can't have boob or anything deemed risque as a photo on the app.

You cannot see nudes or content that youre paying and verified for if you use the app.

You are on google / play store and it is a 16+ thingy. So so so much lately there have been profiles and people coming into chat, claiming to be 16 sometimes younger, who have came across this app and downloaded it.

No. Fucking no. Heads need wobbled. It's an 18 app. Do NOT put it on a 16+ plus store for downloading. There are minors who have stumbled into this, we all know there are algorithms and ***s can likely be shown this site if looked at similar content but it should NOT be seen by them. Obviously.

Also the "age" thing to do with the play store, is why you can't get fuck all in the means of what you're paying for. Not to mention the glitches and trouble thats with it.

Do us all a favour and get rid of the app. Trolls and horny fuck boys/gals just use it to *** people serious about this community. We will all be happier without it.

The serious people will use the site version. Available on Laptop and mobile internet browsers, so no need for an age restricting app that minors can get to, and the paying folks don't get their ***'s worth.

Food for thought maybe.

I'm going to be honest; for how relevant this is.   I massively dislike the app also - I had it briefly and went "fuck that" and my prefered way of using the site is on the web, but if I really really wanted to access it on my phone - then I would use my phones web browser.  Jobs a good un.

There's a lot of frustrations I see from folk - and stuff like photo classifications - yep, to appease the lords and masters at google and apple - because 'adult' is forbidden on those so it has to be accepted anyone can download it.

And so this is part of the "cost" of having an app.

Then of course the likes of Kink Academy which is the only part of the forum that can be accessed on the app, unless you've logged in on the website also, and I know that people get frustrated by what is rejected on there, or the wait for approval and - ahem - some of the people the app has attracted.

I'd hope(?) somewhere along the line having an app has brought in justifiable revenue - but even then I know for example that Apple takes at least 30% of subscription *** and I suspect google is similar.

It doesn't come as any surprise that Fetlife abandoned theirs.

With a tongue in cheek; I kinda half hope a lot of this stops folk from constantly crying "there should be an app!!!" for everything.  Because pre-app, that was all anyone did on here ;)

But... It is an adult app.

So it just shouldnt be on the stores if it is for "anyone" cus it's simply not.

There's having an app to make *** and attract customers and their custom.

However all it takes is for one Minor to fall into this all simply cus its shown on the Store, get involved with the wrong person or someone completely unaware of their actual age and should something go wrong. That persons life is fucker and a law suit could end up at Fets door. Never minding the youngster whos left scarred for life

It's not worth that for ***.

Just need to get rid of the app and remind people that the site can be accessed on mobile internet browser not just computers/laptops.

People seem to forget this.

Also enables them to post what they want, and see the content they're paying for.

Its simple really.

The app works just fine *when it works*. It has good functionality and you can access the whole forum now. You also can download the uncut version to access 18+ content. There's nothing wrong with the product... if it worked right. And

Sigh. The app crashed mid-comment 🙄🙄🙄 Jen, young people know how to Google. I don't think they're more likely to be on the app than the website. In fact, they're more likely to use the website bc they can use Chrome incognito and hide their use from their parents. The app has to be downloaded and most parents get notifications when their kids do that.

Haha it crashed mid comment. If that's not backing up the whole argument I don't know what is.

Regardless I am talking from experience lately of being in chat room and minors some even under 16 coming in and saying they "found this app".

There's a big difference in being curious but by it being on the Store, which is aimed at 16+ this is WHY these younger folks down load it. Because it's allowed on there.

But it's always crashing, there's always people complaining and you cant see the adult content your paying for. I don't know or have heard of an uncut version? But I am a firm believer in the site being the better of the two. Lol at the reaction, petty people always liking something that goes against my opinion.

I respect your comments though Char xx

Like Lady Char says the app works well when it works! The issue at hand isn’t even an age thing as most if not all new accounts have to go through verification (not the paywall to view adult content) and the fact that I can not view adult content on the site because I refuse to pay for it doesn’t bother me either! The reason I use the app is for accessibility as I’m disabled I don’t want to have to carry my laptop about when I go out and about so if I want to hop on and kill some time while I’m waiting for a friend to get to a cafe or while I’m waiting at an appointment then it’s ideal! You also have the fact that not everyone has access to home internet or a home computer! So me personally I stick by my previous statement stop doubling down and revert to the old working version of the app until the app is less buggy that way people will stop complaining about a broken app.

This is why I've been saying repeatedly, you don't need the app for mobile access. Mobile internet brings you to the site. No laptop required. And it's much more reliable than the app. And all features are accessible.

Everyone forgets mobile internet is a thing and associate browser with computers and laptops, it can all be done on mobile too.

I will never ever use the app again. I tried one day and it was horrific. Site all the way for me. I just feel it's too risky being on play store as an 16+ app when it simply is not.

Another vital feature the app bugs out on is blocks. If you block someone they shouldn't be able to see you at ALL and you shouldn't be able to see them. They need to sort this out. It's been complained about for 2 years now. And blocks should be hidden from not only chat but profiles, uploads, forums, everything. This pisses me off most about the app. But this is my personal view and I'm stubborn so hahah.

Pressing the Return key now sends a (one-line) message
I used to be able to use Return to start a new line within a message, so that a single message had multiple lines. I would then use the arrow button to send that multiple-line message

It's still possible if you press control+return. But yeah, it should be made clear for all users or possible to disable. I'm writing that down. Have received a lot of those comments.

Hi @purplepie😊👋

Is there (currently) any way to do this when accessing the site via mobile phone (not app), using an Android keyboard for example?

I personally hadn't encountered this issue and had been continuing to be able to break my paragraphs up until this evening. One conversation was with a friend I'd chatted with lots with previously and so I was able to follow up and explain; before that I probably sent one of the most bizarrely abrupt opening/introductory messages ever, which obviously I can't follow up and explain for three months (by which time it will be especially weird to do so) 😂🙈

Mmm.
I understand that the app has issues from time to time. And as a free member I'm usually happy to wait it our.. shit happens lol
However it has been 13 days since I last messaged on here ...

Just to add my bit as an IT professional (foxpro developer, Microsoft Partner, irc chatop, Azure specialist etc etc)

1. Top level admin know when updates will be released ahead of time. They should notify users in advance, even if they only notify paying users. If they do this very few people will complain when things are down for a while. If they are worried that threat actors will use these times as attack windows then they need to tighten their security.

2. I've run and worked with many support teams over the years. The lack of response and feedback from the guys who run fetish is deplorable. Paying customers are entitled to responses.

3. Yes, we all know shit goes wrong from time to, BUT it takes very little effort to send an email out to paying users  saying "hey guys, sorry were had issues yesterday, one of our servers stalled/we were being ddos'd/someone unplugged something/one of our data centres had a power cut" or whatever the reason is.

4. Most chat sites don't pay MOD's, they are usually voluntary and the ones we see on fet are great. All the above is directed to sysadmins, not Chatroom Moderators.

I *was* a paying customer. Site reliability took a nosedive and I emailed support asking why but they didn't answer. I haven't renewed my subscription and wont until those points are addressed.

There in lies my point! The people in charge keep quiet why the unpaid mods take the brunt of the unhappy customers ranting and complaints! And the paying customers start to vote with their feet! All the while nothing worthwhile is forwarded to the customers who pay for additional site access or the people who don’t pay but help keep it active by means of their presence from those in charge! Not a sorry this has happened or this is our plan to fix it in this time scale! You’d have thought a company who’s goal it was to make *** on their customers content would be more willing to come forward and talk about the issues and make amends?

I think it is good we're seeing more community staff/managers visible on the site

that has been missing for a long time

for updates in general - I do have a couple of thoughts

How many people - realistically - would be happy with an email or a push notification at a time they cannot control going "BTW - we've got an outage" or planned maintenance or so on from a fetish website - then add in again, with the default on websites now being to "opt out" of notifications/offers/etc a lot of users wouldn't get them anyway.

But also. Perhaps this is a kind of tech apathy in general.   I think I've been on facebook since 2007 or 2008.  I have never once even had an email saying "hey, we have new features" - ditto for twitter which has been several years also.   Fetlife is notorious for going down and you get nothing more than a generic error message or their oh-so-humorous "backend is unhealthy" 500 error.

Incidentally, there were massive problems there last week or the week before and there was little more than a delayed "oh, we're working on it" if anyone asked.

I'm not saying this is right or wrong.  But it's certainly a symptom of tech in the past couple of decades.  I think in most cases code is poked live in the hope everything will work and in most cases, most people don't even notice there's been some form of update

I think it would be good with more communication, but it's definitely an industry problem rather than site specific.

Ladies and Gentlemen...I have news. After the latest mini debacle, I noticed that there is now a little 5 spoked wheel on the Inbox which allows you to access the Message Filter directly, an excellent idea. I often tell folks who don't want messages (especially from men) to set this up. When I looked today....hurrah....Hit Enter to Send Message....with an option to turn it off. Happy days.

So hmmm 🤔 is this a site change that's easier for the owners to be able to run fetish.com or one that's meant to help the users?!? Just went to go Delete a load of messages as they are useless to me but it's not got delete it seems now ☹️ just save & hide or somesuch scared to touch anything on my messages in case I message instead of delete.....makes it not usible looks like you can maybe video message?!? So it's more interactive but I really need a delete button to clear out trash to make way for new stuff 🤔🕵️
